Snow Day!?!?!?

Well, our 2-Hour Delay turned into a whole day off. Yay!! I am amazed that the district made the call before this morning and it was great to go to bed knowing I didn't have to get up early. But guess what? I woke up at 6:36 am and I'm wide awake!

To steal a line from my friend Napoleon, "GAH!"

Maybe I should go take advantage of my time and alertness and do something productive. Or maybe I'll just keep watching TV! :)

Enjoy the day!

Crazy Day!

Today was quite a day! It started with me waiting until the last possible moment to leave for school. I just kept hoping I'd get the call to let me know we were having an ice day, but it never came. Once school began, the office decided that today would not be a good day to administer a benchmark test. Since it was a benchmark day I had no other plans for the day. And since we were missing about 40% of the class it wasn't really a good idea to do something new - so we did this:

Just kidding! I mean we totally did play the Wii but not until the end of the day. It was a little reward for the great behavior my kids had all day, even though there was not a lot of structure and the possibility of going home early was looming. This time of year is probably the hardest because it's when we start to really feel the pressure to be ready for TAKS and unfortunately, the kids often feel that too, so it was nice to have a day to just hang out and have fun!

To top off this crazy day, this is my 200th post! And, we just found out that we get a 2-hour delay tomorrow! Woo Hoo!

I don't think I'm supposed to be excited

I got something in the mail today:

I have never had jury duty before so I'm kind of excited to do my civic duty and see the judicial system in action. Well, what I mean is, I'm kind of excited about sitting in a room with a bunch of people I don't know for what might possibly be an entire day! Knowing my luck I'll probably get picked to be on a jury for some crazy case and be sequestered for a month!

Don't worry, when the day comes, I'll document the experience as best I can! :)

Long time no blog

Wow, it's been a little while since I've blogged about anything. I guess I haven't really had anything exciting to write about. I've mostly spent the last week trying to overcome my addiction to Diet Coke. Seriously, I had some pretty crazy withdrawal symptoms. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it and am trying to consume just one a day. Man, I have amazing will-power don't I?

So while I've been sitting in a dark corner rocking back and forth (totally kidding) I've been listening to a song I heard on the radio non-stop. I heard it one day and remembered, thankfully, that I have that iPhone App that tells you what song is playing just by listening to a few seconds of it. Otherwise I would have listened all night waiting for them to tell me the name of the song. I downloaded it right away. I really like the music but the lyrics are what really get me. The song is called Savior, Please and it's by Josh Wilson.

Savior, please take my hand
I work so hard, I live so fast
This life begins, and then it ends
And I do the best that I can, but I don't know how long I'll last

I try to be so tough
But I'm just not strong enough
I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me
I try to be good enough
But I'm nothing without Your love
Savior, please keep saving me

Savior, please help me stand
I fall so hard, I fade so fast
Will You begin right where I end
And be the God of all I am because You're all I have

Hallelujah
Everything You are to me
Is everything I'll ever need
And I am learning to believe
That I don't have to prove a thing
'Cause You're the one who's saving me

Music, it speaks to me.

I'll end this post with a couple funny stories from the schoolhouse...

Today, the really short hairs on the top of my head have been stuck straight up for some reason. I really didn't think it was that noticeable but while my class was waiting in line at lunch one boy looks up at me, tilts his head, and says "looks like somebody's having a bad hair day." I just laughed really hard. It's that kind of honesty that really lets me know we have a family atmosphere at school. :)

This next one is actually courtesy of my sister. We were comparing two kids who crack us up regularly with the strange things they say. Well the other day Ashleigh asked this student to go next door and pick up the paper off the printer. The girl goes next door and says, "I'm here to pick up the picture off the planet."

And that's all folks!

Happy Birthday Josh!!

Twenty-nine years ago today, my brother Josh was born! I know that's really not old or anything, but to me it seems totally crazy that he's almost thirty! I wouldn't say that we've always gotten along but he's always been a great brother and I'm really a fan of the person he is. He's crazy smart, super funny, and can turn just about anything into something cool. So, Happy Birthday, Josh! I hope it's your best year yet!

Please let the record show...

That it is 10:47 p.m. the night before I return to school after two weeks off and I am still awake. I will be the first to admit that I didn't really live up to the "societal norm" the last two weeks with regard to sleep patterns, but I thought for sure I'd be out by now. Last night I fell asleep sometime around 3 a.m. and awoke at 9:07 (which wouldn't have been a problem except I should have been at church by 9:15) so I was certain that sleep would come easily tonight and I wouldn't repeat this morning tomorrow.

But, alas, I sit here wide awake. I've ironed my clothes, I've watched 3 episodes of Prison Break, I've read a couple chapters in a book, and I've even counted sheep! This always happens to me the night before returning to school after a break-I think way too much about stuff like not waking up on time, or not being prepared, or the kids all deciding they don't want to listen to me anymore, and then I'm so worked up I never go to sleep. I'm pretty cool, huh?

Anyway, it's always worked out fine before so I don't expect it to be any different tomorrow. Here's hoping everyone has a great day back in the real world!

Sold!

I have been a fan of eBay for a really long time. I believe my first purchase on eBay was about 10 years ago and I have made many, many, many more since. Even though I've bought tons of stuff I've never sold anything on eBay. Until now, that is. I awoke this morning to find that my cracked iPhone had sold for $125! I was pleasantly surprised that it sold for that much and it makes me feel much better about my decision to get a new one. When you do the math, I got a brand new, faster, prettier iPhone with more memory for about $75.

Now I'm going to go look around the house for other things to sell!
