Wow, I honestly can't believe that it's already the year 2009! It makes me feel old. I'll get back to the new year in just a second.
It's been kind of a quiet week or so around these parts and I don't particularly like the quiet because the voices in my head are a lot louder! :) So in order to have a little white noise and something to fill my time I've spent the last 4 or 5 days watching episodes of the TV show Prison Break on DVD. My sister loves this show and encouraged me to watch it, so that's pretty much all of I've done for days. I'm about to start Season 3 and I'm hoping I can finish it before life returns to normal next week. The basic plot consists of an elaborate plan for two brothers to escape from prison after being set up by a group of people who secretly control the entire government. It is intense and if that's all you watch for days you kind of start to think it's real. The thing that has made the biggest impression on me though is how desperate the brothers are. They're desperate for freedom, they're desperate for innocence, they're desperate for money. And while these two brothers aren't really the bad guys, their desperation is causing a lot of collateral damage.
Now, back to the point of this post. I'm desperate for a lot of things too and I've spent a lot of 2008 feeling that desperation. Some days I'm desperate for a few more minutes of sleep, some days for Diet Coke, some months for a few more dollars in the bank account. Last night I was desperate for something that would take away the worst headache I've ever had in my life (I seriously almost called my mama at 2:18 in the morning). And most of the time I'm desperate for things that I'm not quite ready to confess to the world wide web. While I don't think my desperation is causing too much damage to others, I'm definitely spending way too much time being desperate for all the wrong things.
So in 2009, I want to be desperate for just one thing, Him.

Look for Van and Kathy's in Prision Break (they did some of the filming on their property).
